Interview with Dave Spoon

Dave Spoon sits down with us ahead of Toolroom on the Thames and Toolroom Knights.
Hello Dave,

Thanks for sitting down with us ahead of your set in the Box this Saturday at Toolroom Knights and Toolroom on the Thames.

So we’ve got you on out Boat party this Saturday.  Looking forward to it?  Played on a Boat Party before?
Yeh ofcourse... I'll be tired from Ibiza knowing me but I'm up for it! i've played a couple of boats before they're always good fun.

This has been quite a year for you.  What have been some of the highlights so far?

Getting a show on Radio 1 ofcourse tops the list, but there have been alot of others too. Pete & I working on the title music for the new Hammer film 'Beyond the Rave' was pretty amazing... also my first tour in Australia was wicked.

You’ve had some great releases out with some incredible support from some great DJs.  Do you ever get to see the feedback sheets?  What comments and from who, have been the most memorable?

I do sometimes, but I'm lucky to be intouch with alot of big names directly so I get props from them on IM or email. Don't get me wrong it's amazing to get the support and hear about the reactions, but as a producer the ultimate reward is the reaction from the crowd when I play somthing myself.

What tracks are currently big in your record bag?

Zoo Brazil 'Technik' is definitely one of those i'll be playing all year... also on a slightly different tip, Fake Blood have made a record called 'Mars' which is pretty large too if you like the quirkier side of things!

What Festivals are you at this year?

I'm doing Creamfields UK, Dance Valley in Holland and thats pretty much it really... I'll be going to Bestival though as it's just across the Solent from Portsmouth where I Live. I love the vibe there and don't need a tent as I live so close. Don't do tents, me!

Festivals in the UK are notorious for their weather, but always a summer essential!  What are your five festival tips for surviving them with a smile?

Live close! No... my previous festival experiences tell me to not try and be too cool with your clothes, and forget the wind-cheater and wellies. I'd rather be dry and warm than soaked with ruined clothes!

Are you out in Ibiza this season?  If so where can we catch you?

I'm at Pacha with David Guetta at FMIF on 12th June, then my mini Cream residency starts the week after at Amnesia from 19th, then the next one is 3rd July. All the other dates are on my MySpace and Facebook pages.

What are your favourite parties out on the white Isle?

I've not had alot of experiences there yet! Believe it or not last year was my first out there, but I'd say my visit to Pure Pacha was pretty immense - the crowd were amazing! I didn't grow up partying so much, more like with my headphones on playing with drum machines & synths... no complaints tho as it's how I learnt my trade, but maybe i've got some catching up to do out there.

All this talk of Boat Parties, Ibiza and Festivals gets one thinking of Summer...  What are your top 3 Ice lollies and Ice creams?

Haha ok... 3. Almond Magnum, 2. Tropical Solero, 1. 5p Ice pop (probably 20p nowadays).

Thanks
