Fridays at Ministry will never be the same as we welcome the Gallery on board for a new Friday night weekly residency, launching on 25th April 2008...
With the imminent departure of Turnmills from London’s clubbing landscape this Easter, the venue’s world famous Friday night institution The Gallery will be moving south of the river to the Ministry of Sound from Friday 25th April to begin a brand new weekly residency for 2008.
Launching on The Gallery’s 13th Birthday, we’ll be turning the clock back to zero as we embrace the next exciting chapter in our illustrious history with our big move to the mighty MoS.
Once we knew that Turnmills would be closing forever, there was only ever one other venue in the capital capable of continuing the high standards we’ve set ourselves. Ministry of Sound is the biggest club brand on the planet and like Turnmills, has a rich tradition for putting on some of the greatest ever club nights. In short, The Gallery’s forthcoming move to Ministry couldn’t be any more perfect if we tried and The Gallery gang can’t wait to get started.
Turnmills & The Gallery Director Danny Newman, explains his decision behind the move… “So, finally Turnmills is closing its doors its official. The wheels are in motion and the cats out of the bag with the recent announcement of the final program of events over the Easter weekend. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has emailed in, called and been in contact. Thank you so much for all the kind words of support. I know it’s come as a shock to a lot of people and many of you have been saddened by the news, but I’ve been saying all along to watch this space, and the main question on everyone’s lips has been 'well, what’s happening to The GALLERY?’ Well, the rumour mill has been turning and I can confirm The Gallery will be moving to its new home, every Friday from April 25th, which happens to be our Birthday weekend!! We were going to have the Birthday at Turnmills, but as it’s kind of like our re-birth, it’s the ideal opportunity to wind the clock back to the start and begin all over again. When we made the decision to continue weekly back in September last year, there was only ever one club in the frame. The only club space in London that could do justice to the line up's, the history and the vibe. That club is of course Ministry of Sound!
Late last year the rumours of Turnmills closing had started to be whispered around clubland and by coincidence we were contacted by the MoS to see what our plans were. We basically had the same idea at the same time and we kind of agreed in principle over a hand shake on our first meeting. It just seemed like the right place right from the outset.
Obviously it’s been hard to try and keep it under our hats for all that time and although we tried, I think the excitement of telling people and then asking them not to mention it just wasn't practical. Anyway it’s OUT NOW!”
Danny continues... “The venue is the perfect space for us to take The Gallery to the next level. The people behind the club are very similar to us and work in a way that they understand what we are trying to achieve and more importantly who we are as people. The club has had a massive resurgence in the last few years and the Saturday nights are now some of the strongest in London without a doubt. We hope to rival this on the Friday and deliver an alternative to what they are already doing so well. The weekly Gallery nights will of course continue in a way that you have all been accustomed to. We have already secured what I think are the biggest line ups that we’ve ever booked for the opening month in May. This will continue as well as bringing in our regular megastars alongside new DJs, new talent, plus we have another couple of rooms to play with which is also very exciting and allows us to push other sounds like we’ve always done at Turnmills.
We will have more announcements as the time gets nearer with some new residents as well as some of your old favourites back at the helm. The Gallery is back... well it never really went away.”
Susan Kelsh, Head of Press at MoS, is equally delighted with the announcement... "As news goes this is definitely BIG. Everyone here is really buzzed up about the new Gallery residency – it’s what Friday’s at Ministry should be about, and really compliments what we already do with our SATURDAY SESSIONS - incredible line-ups, and ground breaking music. Without blowing our own I’d say it’ll be hard to find another club in London if not the UK offering the same level of world class DJ’s over Friday and Saturday’s. We’re counting down the days…”
The opening Gallery night on Friday 25th April will witness the mother of all Birthday celebrations as the world’s new No.1 DJ and Gallery veteran Armin van Buuren sets the standard with a rare London set. Judge Jules, Tall Paul and John Askew are amongst the other guests performing on the night. A week later on Bank Holiday Friday 2nd May, German ‘god’ Paul van Dyk jets in for an exclusive appearance, before Eddie Halliwell and Sander van Doorn take over on Friday 9th May. Markus Schulz unleashes an unmissable 3 Hour Set on Friday 16th May, with Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine and Hernan Cattaneo setting the standard on Friday 23rd May, leaving Judge Jules to his launch his Judgement Sundays party in Ibiza on Friday 30th May and to finish off the first month of parties at MoS in style.
See… told ya it was BIG!! And that’s just for starters.
The Gallery is moving to Ministry of Sound: A new era, but the same Excellence in the Art of Sound.
Tickets for all these events will go on sale at 10am on Monday 17th March.
