Thanks for taking 5 mins with us at Saturday Sessions ahead of hitting The Box this coming Saturday...
No problem. My pleasure.
For those who haven’t heard you play before tell us a bit about your sound and what to expect at This Is...Wonderland?
They haven’t heard me!!? Hahah… they can expect a bit of everything, that’s the beauty of my This is… nights – I get to play for 6hrs so I can incorporate everything I love from techno, deep, minimal to hands in the air house. It’s all good.
You play all over the world, where are your favourite places to play? What clubs stand out for you and why?
I love playing everywhere, I really do. I am so honoured to have this opportunity to travel the world… I do love LA, the USA just has a different vibe to the rest of the world, I love Brazil, Iceland, I love playing in my home country Holland, Germany, Spain, Ibiza, UK, the list goes on really…
You’re known for your love of technology, what is your standard DJ set up these days for when you play?
I dj on CDJs & a pioneer SVM-1000 DVJ mixer - It’s basically putting visuals to music. The idea of using video by a dj is already several years old… I use the revolutionary Pioneer SVM-1000 mixer which enables a DJ to incorporate visuals into their set. This has made it one step easier for a dj to control and manipulate a club goers audio/visual experience. Its the total solution for the dj that wants to mix with video. It’s a dream mixer in my world..
What other producers are currently doing it for you at the moment? What’s big in your box?
Patch Park "Synched", Funkagenda "Dirty Disorder", John Dahlbeck... there are also some tracks from Deadmau5 & Tony Senghore aswell… they have been rocking it.
Who in music are your biggest inspirations when it comes to DJing?
Back in the days it was remixes by Shep Pettibone, the sleeve art from Jon ‘Jellybean’ Benitez releases, loops by Simon Harris, a video of Beat Street and Depeche Mode concerts.
Summer is here and so is festival festival season. What have been some of your favourite festival highlights over the years?
Glastonbury last weekend! There was such an amazing vibe and my tent was packed. It really was a sight to see. Also here's a few from around the world: Glade, Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, Global Gathering, Sensation, Dance Valley......the list goes on.
I must add, when I dj’d at the Glade (UK) last year and it seemed that all of the odds where against the event. It rained so hard for several days that the site transformed into an absolute mud-fest. The place literally looked like something out of a disaster movie! Yet the energy in the tents was unparalleled and it turned out to be my best festival show last year.
What festivals can we catch you at this summer?
I am playing at the Doctor Loft Festival in Spain which should be fun, Global Gathering Ukraine, Global Gathering UK and Lovelands in Amsterdam. Its going to be a great summer… check out my website or myspace for dates.
What are your 5 Festival essentials?
All In One Sleeping Bag (it's a sleeping bag you can wear!), beer mug hat, gorilla costume, inflatable limbo stick and loads of cash
And finally, if you were to be hit by a freak flood and you only had enough time to grab a handful of records and items, what would be the first you’d reach for?
My laptop!
