Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us here at Saturday Sessions ahead of your set in The Box at Refune this Saturday night.
"No Problem i love to sit down , in fact i do it all day in the studio..so when i standing up i try to sit down a soon as i can.. i feel like home now really!"
Can you tell our crowd a bit about yourself and your sound for those who may not be familiar with you?
"im john andersson make music with my beloved music partner for 16years johan emmoth, some people
00.0004% thinks we make the best music in the world..in fact we do but the rest of the people have not find out just yet. and also
im djing and are the 2nd best dj in the world, its also true! - at least my friends have told me that alot of time..and i trust them very much!. we
have been produced music for all the cool labels like get physical, systematic, pickadoll, john henry records, dessous, harthouse, skint, loaded, paper.
all the majors like universial, virgin, warner to less cool labels like ministry of sound - hahaha joking ministry is rocking great - happy to releaed on minstry aswell..even if it was like 6 years ago! ooohh when been remixed people from j-lo, fatboy slim, human league to james holden and us house heros blaze
and written music for both kylie minogue -the song we wrotte for kylie is her next singel and are called "the one" . and on top we done million other things
but we keep this as a starter...wow did just read the zo brazil index i have online...we have rised to 00.0012% now..."
The name’s quite interesting. Where did it come from?
"we did have a angry but friendly label manger on the phone asking us to come up with an artist name for the ep we signed for his label..we had promised him a name for 2 month..so when he was on the phone this time he was REALLY pushing for a name before i hangup the phone as i usual do..so....the name we would come up with should only be for this release..(we thought for my self) my brain started to work...ehhh ooookiii...lets use the name ZOO ......ehhhh BBBB....ehhhhh BRAZIL....yeah ZOO BRAZIL ... i have to blame my brain on this! and now we have used it for around 50 releases and along side with about 10 other artist name we use aswell..but it funny how ZOO BRAZIL have been blown up the last years!!"
Your album No Place Like Home is a firm favourite here on the office stereo. What was your inspiration when putting it together? "i cant tell you..becourse johan will kill me if i tell you. we have this "zoo brazil law" that we cant tell any one about the agenda behind the album. but im happy to hear that you like it! there is alot of diffrent styles on the album but still fits togahter like a redline as they say..and works on the dancefloor like john travolta redbull!"
You’ve chosen to sign it to Gung Ho Recordings, one of our favourite labels. What motivated you to sign with them?
"matt stuart the label manager phoned me one day, and this day i was in a sooooo nice mood that we signed it to
gung-ho recordings, without reading any contract - matt is nice lad so just perfect for us, even if he can be a pain in the ass sometimes..hahah no matt
is fine and put alot of effort to the label..so it a honour to work with him!"
You both DJ regularly, what are your favourite places to play at and why?
"now days is just me (john) djing and i must say. i had so many good moments that I cant pick one place...."
What artists are currently doing it for you? What tunes are big for you at the moment?
" i have enough to keep up with my own stuff at the moment so..hmm hard one...its a new guy called "tom droid" that doing amazing stuff
he is like sven vath but without the h in vath...so not really like sven vath, he is tom droid not sven vath!
Who are your favourite DJs? Who inspire you when it comes to DJing?
"no one really, sometimes you hear a warm up dj that really is amazing..i get inspiration from myself aswell, just to hear the new track you done the day before
in the studio and play it out for the first time when you get an amazing reaction from the crowed...its a blessing feeling...not that much in to listning to djsets..it get so boring when all dj playes the same beatport chart records....i like to be suppriced and here xlusive stuff.."
And finally, your house is on fire, you’ve got 1 minute to head in and grab a few records. What are the first you reach for?
"ooh it must be the first record i ever bought "depeche mode - master and servant" (some kind of limited version of it from 1984)
and all my own released records - so i can save them for my future kids and grand children.. i wondring how they will rect when grandpa put that new gung-ho album on if its sucks big time..or they think i was a cool dude back in the days.. or they will pick on me and i have to hide the records...hmm..future will tell.."
