We Interview Josh Gabriel

Josh Gabriel faces a grilling this week ahead of his highly anticipated, special guest appearance this Saturday at Toolroom Knights.
This is the first time you've played solo at our club, looking forward to it?
Absolutly, I have had an amazing time DJing there before and this time I get to say exactly what I want.

What should we expect?  How would you describe your style and approach to Djing?
I just finished my debut artist album, called "eight" so I will
definitley be playing stuff from that as well as lots of bootlegs and mashups I've been making speical for my DJ sets. Expect it to be more techy and twisted than you might think. Also, I just did a remix of the next release on my Different Pieces label so expect that one. It's driving techno - the track is called "Caboose" by Francis Preve
(DP002).

You're now focussing on your time as a solo artist after years working together with studio and DJ partner Dave Dresden.  Was this a hard decision to make?
It was a very difficult decision to make, but in the end I am happy to working on my own stuff now.

Over the years you notched up quite an impressive string of remixes.  Which artists were the most exciting and challenging to sit down and remix?
Every remix is different but some that have stood the test of time are Rachel Starr "Till There was You" and Andain "Beautiful Things".

Which ones were the most flattering to be asked to remix?
For me I'd have to say Annie Lennox and Sarah Mc Lachan

Now you're based San Fransisco, a great city.  For those visiting, what places would you recommend for a full on weekend of partying over there?
I would say, go to the wine coutry for a day of wine tasting, head back for dinner at Ola and music at Ruby Sky and if you still have it in you, the End Up is always open.

What are your favourite clubs to play at around the world and why?
1. Cacao Beach in Bulgaria becuase it's on the beach and has no walls,
the sun rising, the people, it's a great party.
2. Exit in Lithuania, sound system is super tight and the crowd is up
for anything.
3. Guaba Beach, Cyprus, one of the best vibes on the planet. People, the ocean and don't foget the BBQ.

When you're not in a club, what's on your stereo?  What new bands, non dance music stuff is doing it for you right now?
Lately been listening to Sarah Glasko's new album. Indie rock from Austraila. My wife sugessted I do a bootleg of it so I did.

Moving swiftly back to the house music...  What tips for the top do you have for our Saturday Sessions crowd?  What DJs and producers should we be checking out and why?
voRr, Style of Eye and Franics Preve.
