We Interview Spoony

Spoony joins us for this week's Saturday Sessions catch up...
Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us here at Saturday Sessions ahead of Spoony’s House in the Lounge at Subliminal Seesions this Saturday.

It’s been a while since we last had you come and play. What can our regulars expect this Saturday?
A set of gorgeous House Music. Sexy, vocal stuff with dubs and beats to bump you into the early hours. Also trying to get some glamour back into clubbing.

What have been your standout gigs over the past couple of years?
I had a great summer ‘08 at Starlight in Kos and I appear regularly at 20/20 in Bournemouth which is brilliant too.

Can you tell us some more about your guests KCC?
My guest KCC are very good friends of mine and DJ’s I used to look upto when I was establishing myself. I used to party to them at the Notting Hill Carnival where the have been appearing for nearly 20 years. They play a deep, melodic style that you cant keep still too. They are true House heads and some of the nicest people in the industry.

You’ve gone a hell of a long way since your Dreem Team days. Smashing your way into prime time Radio 1 presenting along the way.  Are you still in touch with Timmi Magic and Mikee B?
My brothers from different mothers. Still always speak to the boys, bit of Liverpool Arsenal football banter. We played together at Gatecrasher in Leeds and it reminded me of some of the best times of my career.

Who are your favourite DJs?  Who have been the biggest influence on yourself as a DJ?
Masters at Work. Kenny and Louie have been they guys I always loved. Became aware of them through their musical production but just have grown up loving with they play and their musical integrity. I watched Morrillo smash Pasha, Ibiza in the summer. He has it going on too.

What have been your favourite tracks of the last 12 months?
‘Bongo Jam’, Crazy Cousins. ‘It’s Over’, Jamie Lewis and Michael Watford. ‘Please Leave’ DJ Footloose.

What labels and producers are doing it for you at the moment?
Purple Music are always brilliant, Defected consistently put out good stuff. Loving Crazy Cousins, Donaeo, Footloose out of the UK. Masters at Work always and DJ Spen are not too far away from my decks either.

We all know you’re big on your football, presenting the 6-0-6 on 5 Live.  With Liverpool being your team.  It’s a pretty good season so far, the Chelsea result catching us by surprise particularly!  Reckon you can take the premiership?
I think we can win it. Chelsea look strong and Manchester United are always a threat but we are in as good position as we have been for ages.

And finally, your house is flooding you’ve got 2 mins to go and salvage your record collection.  What are the first ones you reach for?
Prince ‘Sign of the Times’,  Micheal Jackson ‘Off the Wall’, Craig David ‘Born to Do It’, Body and Soul ‘Vol 1’ Dreem Teem ‘Incredible’ compilation and Jill Scott ‘Word and Sounds Vol 1’. Music and memories for all moods.

Thanks for answering our questions! We look forward to catching you this Saturday at Subliminal Sessions.
